PARKLAND FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY
ANNUAL MEETING MAY 13, 2008
On Tuesday, May 13th, the Annual Meeting of the Parkland Friends of the Library [PFOTL] took place in the Meeting Room of the Parkland Library. Every 2008 member of the PFOTL was invited to take part in voting for the new Board, listen to and participate in the planning of events as recommended by the new Board for the 2008/2009 membership year and partake of the refreshments, provided by the library staff, before the meeting at the Member’s ‘Meet & Greet’ held in the library vestibule.

Prior to the election of new Board members, Pres. Ken Cutler spoke of the growth and accomplishments of the PFOTL during his ten-year tenure as its leader and motivator. In his speech, Ken Cutler brought up the history of both the Parkland Library and the PFOTL by thanking both Carolyn Marks and Diane David for their vision and their leadership in establishing both the library and the PFOTL. In addition, he thanked the Board members who had served with him over the years along with the membership for their volunteer work and their accomplishments over the years.

The 2007/2008 Board was composed of the following people: Ken Cutler, Pres.; Ira Goldman, VP; Natalie Bigio, Sec.; Elsie Winship, Treas. In addition, the guidance and knowledge provided to the Board by Carolyn Marks and Suzi Hayes [Library Director], was most important to the successes during their tenure.

Following Ken Cutler’s speech, ballots were distributed and those present voted for the new 2008/2009 Board, along with one change to amend the By-Laws by increasing the Board from seven [7] to nine [9] members. The Board for the 2008/2009 are as follows: Natalie Bigio, President; Ira Goldman, VP; Joyce Ann Lanzilla, Sec.; Rick Berman, Treas.; Ness Roberts, Mable Smith, Harlene Zweig, Ken Cutler and Norma Herzlin as Directors.

After the election, the new President, Natalie Bigio, explained the goals for the 2008/2009 year and presented the past Board with “thank yous” and roses for their leadership during the past year. Ira Goldman, on behalf of the PFOTL, presented Diane David, the first president of the PFOTL and co-founder of the Parkland Library, Carolyn Marks, founder of the Parkland Library, Ken Cutler, longest serving PFOTL president and Elsie Winship, the longest serving treasurer of the PFOTL with special acknowledgement awards for their vision, their leadership, their continued support and dedication.
